RJ McLeod win £31m+ Selkirk Flood Scheme contract

Glasgow-based construction company RJ McLeod has won the main £31m-plus construction works contract to build the Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme.

In June six companies were invited to tender after the completion of a pre-qualification exercise that saw 16 companies register their interest in delivering the project

The Scheme is programmed to formally award the contract before Christmas. The main construction works contract is then programmed to commence in January 2015 and to be completed by the end of December 2016.

The contract is one of the biggest contracts that Selkirk Borough Council has ever taken forward - the delivery of the £31.4 million project currently remains on programme and within budget.

Project Manager for the Scheme, Conor Price commented:

“For the past six months, the project team has been undertaking an exercise to procure a contractor to construct the Scheme’s new flood defences. This process is now nearing completion.”

“The selection of the successful tenderer and, ultimately, confirmation of the Scheme’s construction contractor, is the completion of many years of preparatory design and latterly procurement work. “

“The next step will be to formally award the contract, and thereafter the project team will refocus on the delivery of the construction works over the coming 24 months. “

The £31.4 million Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme will remove almost 600 properties in Selkirk from the flood risk register. In August 2012, the Scheme became the first major flood protection scheme with an environmental statement to be approved under the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009.
